How to get started

Get a referral

At Grow Pediatric Therapy, we require a referral from your child’s primary care doctor or pediatrician. This means you will need to discuss your child’s concerns with your physician first and they will determine if occupational therapy may be a good fit. Once we have received your referral from your doctor’s office, our front desk staff will reach out to you to schedule an initial evaluation.

Initial Evaluation

Once your initial evaluation or intake appointment has been scheduled, you will be provided with our intake paperwork including: medical history, primary health concerns, clinic policies, and any other necessary information. During the initial evaluation, your therapist will complete a parent/patient interview to determine areas for intervention as well as collaborate with you and your child to establish your family’s priorities and goals for treatment. Standardized testing and clinical observation of fine motor/visual motor skills, motor planning, sensory processing, emotional regulation, and executive functioning may be administered based on your child’s needs.

Treatment

Treatment is based off of what your therapist recommends during your initial evaluation, typically between 8-24 visits of therapy, each visit lasting from 55-60 minutes every week, depending on your family’s needs and medical necessity. Family and caregiver involvement is extremely important to making progress so plan to be involved and engaged during sessions. Remember, this is your family’s time so it is always helpful to come to sessions prepared and with any questions or concerns you want to be addressed that week. For some children, it will be required to bring items from home, such as snacks or their personal hygiene tools (toothbrush, hairbrush).
